The non-conference slate is mostly over with just two out of conference matchups on the docket this week. The first features the annual battle for the Iron Skillet as TCU hosts SMU. This rivalry took on a little more heat when Sonny Dykes left the Mustangs to coach the rival Horned Frogs. Dykes’ former Offensive Coordinator Rhett Lashlee is now the Mustangs Head Coach who was brought in to replace Dykes after a short run as the OC in Miami. That contest kicks off Saturday at noon on FS1.
The other non-conference contest has Houston entertaining Sam Houston at 7:00 on ESPN+. Coogs fans are bit restless with Head Coach Dana Holgerson as they have stumbled out the the gate to a 1-2 start and looked rather listless in their 36-13 loss to TCU. A loss to Sam Houston would really put Coogs Nation in a fury to turn up the warming hot seat for Holgerson.
The rest of the schedule contains all conference battles:
#16 Oklahoma visits Cincinnati, 12 Noon on FOX
BYU is at Kansas, 3:30 on ESPN
Texas Tech travels to West Virginia, 3:30 on ESPN+
Iowa State welcomes Oklahoma State, 4:00 on FS1
Baylor hosts #3 Texas, 7:30 on ABC
And UCF in their first Big 12 football game drops in on Kansas State, 8:00 on FS1. The Wildcats are sure to be a bit testy after losing to Missouri on a 61 yard field goal as time expired last week but they do have some injury concerns. I’m picking the Knights in an upset, 27-14.
