For the last time in the Big 12 and it’s predecessor the Southwest Conference, The Red River Showdown between Texas and Oklahoma will be played this Saturday before this longstanding great rivalry moves to the SEC in 2024. The first contest was in 1900 and has been played yearly since 1929 and at the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas since 1932, mostly on the second Saturday in October but on occasion, the first Saturday of October as is the case this year at Fair Park. The Texas State Fair takes place during this time as well.
The Reference to Red River isto the river that runs along most of the border between Texas and Oklahoma. And the game location in Dallas sits it pretty well even between schools locations of Austin, Texas and Norman Oklahoma. The winner scores The Golden Hat trophy which is a gold ten-gallon hat. Texas leads the all-time series 63-50 and there have been 5 ties. The Red River Showdown takes place at high noon on ABC.
The rest of conference schedule is a little lighter this week
Friday night, Kansas State visits Oklahoma State at 7:30 on ESPN
The remaining Saturday fare has Baylor hosting Texas Tech, 8:00 on ESPN2
TCU squares off against Iowa State, 8:00 on FS2
And turning our attention back to UCF, the Knights invade Lawrence, Kansas to battle the Jayhawks. How will they bounce back from last weeks epic 4th quarter collapse in the Baylor loss? I think they show some moxie and make it a back and forth battle for a while but they are facing a team that will be salty after getting blown out by Texas and the potential return of their star quarterback Jalon Daniels probably fuels the Jayhawks to a 10 point win.
