UCF Athletics announced the removal of women’s basketball coach Sytia Messer after four seasons in a statement on Monday.

Messer did not deliver a winning record during her time at UCF, going 49-69 before being let go. The Knights ended the recent 2025-2026 season with an overall record of 11-19 and a conference record of 3-15.

“In this next chapter for women’s basketball, we are continuing to align our strategy to ensure we are investing in the ways that most directly impact success in today’s landscape,” UCF Athletics said in a statement.

UCF Athletics will conduct a national search for a head coach who “embraces this vision” and “can lead us forward in this new era,” the statement says.
