Former UCF Knight football player Mike Osuna joined the Sons of UCF Podcast to talk about his journey as a walk-on player at UCF. Born with a medical condition, Mike did not begin to play football until late in his high school career. With very little tape to show coaches, Mike’s football journey took him to several small colleges in Wisconsin where he aimed to improve his skills. However, the stress of being away from home pulled at Mike, so on a whim he contacted coaches at UCF and inquired about a walk-on opportunity. Arriving on campus in 1995, Mike worked hard in the weight room and on the field to prove he belonged in the program. This hard work allowed Mike to earn playing time on special teams and defense in the 1996 and 1997 seasons. His drive so impressed his coaches that he was put on full scholarship, which allowed him to complete school and earn a degree. Today, Mike is a Firefighter in South Florida and the owner of a workout facility, Train8Nine, where is mission is to bring health and wellness to the community
