Random thoughts and musings about UCF… mostly

My god was Las Vegas hot. Like 115 degrees hot. Imagine sticking your face in an oven

Allegiant Stadium is pretty nice on the inside, on the outside, it looks like a Roomba

Photo credit: Matt Murschel, Orlando Sentinel

There were a lot of mascots running around as well, and to be honest, it was kind of unnerving

You know what the K in Kyle Whittingham stands for? Kicking ass

I have no idea how old Kyle Whittingham is, all I know is that he looks like he could kick everybody’s ass

Speaking of Kyle Whittingham, wait until you hear how he pronounced Shadeur Sanders name

The C in Matt Campbell stands for Coppertone

Seriously, there is no way that man spent a second of this offseason in Ames, Iowa

Speaking of Iowa State, they brought two WRs – Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel – who were super nice to talk with during the media breakouts. They also seemed like good players

I tried Dr. Pepper and everybody lost their minds that I had never had Dr. Pepper. It wasn’t terrible, but I don’t understand the obsession

If I’m being honest, Deion Sanders wasn’t as difficult as people might think

Yes, he had his handlers and bodyguards, but I actually thought he was relatively friendly

Spent some time talking with UCF defensive coach Addison Williams at the event. My eyes were opened

Brett Yormark was born to wear a suit and you’ll never convince me otherwise

The entire off-stage setup was an audio nightmare cluster

I learned several new curse words from our cab driver

Yes, I said cab. Robert doesn’t believe in Uber

Speaking of Robert, he got us into the Golden Steer Steakhouse on short notice. The food was excellent

I also learned that a lot of people take pictures of their food, which is not something I do

Also, here is a picture of my steak

The UCF players were definitely best dressed

With Team USA basketball in town, we had many celebrity sightings – including Anthony Davis, Carlos Boozer, Grant Hill, and Brad Stevens

In case you were curious, the Bellagio and the Mirage are not as close as you would think

The event was sponsored by Totinos, maker of the pizza roll. You would think they would have pounds of them on hand to eat like they were candy, but no such luck

I love a good pizza roll, but you are signing yourself up for 3rd degree burns in your mouth when you eat one

Speaking of hot, is it a hot take if I say Vegas is overrated?

I did not have Deion heaping praise at Gus on my Big 12 Media Day bingo card

I wouldn’t expect them to say otherwise, but the Knights seem confident we will see a different team this year

With Eminem and Shannon Doherty (rest in peace) in the news, I actually feel like I’m back in college

Kenny Dillingham – sneak diss?

I also giggled like a 13 year old while watching this

I think the Big 12 should rename itself 7-11, because it seems they are always open for business

I don’t know why anybody would subject themselves to watching this

Also, I feel seen and realize I need to lose 10 (ok, 20) pounds

I’m drinking a seltzer while I type this

Pretty cool idea from Sidelines UCF

Does anybody still eat at Subway?

Mike Gundy’s analysis of BAC was also an unexpected gem of content (it was also profoundly dumb)

I have a theory though, if Gundy was bald instead of having a mullet, he would have been fired by now

Shout out to the support staff at UCF – Adam, Justin, Jimmy, Eric – for all the work they, and their teams, put into an event like this

I think, and this is just a theory, people are excited about the new EA Sports College Football video game

It was cool to meet our guy Dukes the Scoop at media day. He was one of a select few that got to talk to Deion one on one

Also, shout-out to Matt Murschel from the Orlando Sentinel. He was a great resource and partner while we were in Las Vegas

Now that UCF Mike is making Top 5 videos, we are that much closer to getting a Top 5 UCF Mike Top 5’s

The West Virginia mascot is a human who can talk. I was unaware how rare that is in the mascot business

Notice the UCF helmet right next to the Big 12 conference championship trophy? Coincidence?

Neal Brown has the personality you’d expect from a guy named Neal Brown

You know what the N is Neal Brown stands for? Need a personality

Serious question, does anybody actually know who will win this conference?

Your boy here got a new job – excited for a fresh start and hopefully better mental health

Based on the interviews we did, Shadeur and Shiloh Sanders have not given any thought to playing UCF… yet

The best bet going in Vegas was whether I would sweat through 1.5 shirts… take the over

Gus was amused by the chatter about his shirt choice

Update: this was not very good

I can’t thank these guys enough for all of the work this past week. It was a grind, but it was also a lot of fun

As of today, we are 45 days away from the season

Practice starts July 29th

It’s almost Go time, but it’s always Go Knights time

And Charge On!
