Home E Basketball E UCF fined $25K for early court storm during No.11 Texas Tech upset

The Knights received a charge of their own

The Big 12 Conference announced a $25,000 fine to UCF on Tuesday, Feb. 3, after Knights Nation stormed the court prematurely against No.11 Texas Tech on Saturday.

“In accordance with Big 12 Conference Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship, the Conference has issued a $25,000 fine of UCF for the court storming prior to the conclusion of Saturday’s men’s basketball victory over No. 11 Texas Tech,” the league said in a statement on X.

The Knightmare rushed to court at the sound of the buzzer to celebrate another upset win of the 2026 season against a nationally ranked team at home. But security officers ushered UCF students off the court when officials ruled that junior guard Chris Johnson fouled Texas Tech junior forward LeJuan Watts with .02 seconds left on the clock.

After nearly a five-minute delay, Watts made one of the two free throws to finalize the score of 88-80.

UCF Knights responded with a post on X about five hours later, stating, “If you feel the same way, donate $9.02,” and an attached link that directs users to a “KnightBoost” webpage, the university’s donation platform. The initial amount asked for $9.02 reflects how the Knights were up nine points with .02 seconds remaining before the called foul.

UCF (17-4, 6-3 Big 12) hunts for another upset victory as they play the No.10 Houston Cougars (19-2, 7-1 Big 12) in Texas today at 7 p.m.
