The game of note in the Big 12 this week is the Dana Holgorsen Bowl as his current team Houston squared off against his former team, West Virginia on Thursday night. The Coogs came into the contest 2-3 on the season and winless in conference in their inaugural season in the Big 12. The frustration amongst the fan base with Holgerson was growing with their lackluster play and a 21 point loss to Texas Tech two weeks ago. The Mountaineers entered the game 4-1 on the season and second in the conference at 2-0, a half game back of Oklahoma. And boy did we get a show.
This battle went back and forth all night and the fourth quarter fireworks provided a wild finish. West Virginia trailed by 11 with under 8:00 minutes and capped their rally on a Garrett Greene to Hudson Clement 50 yard TD pass that gave the Mountaineers a 39-35 lead with 13 seconds in the game. Game over? Not so fast my friend. Donovan Smith launched a Hail Mary pass on the last play of the game that was tipped and caught by Stephon Johnson for a 49 yard score as the clock read zeroes to give the Cougars their first Big 12 win.
Lots of byes this week so the other 4 games on the Big 12 schedule this week on Saturday include:
Iowa State at Cincinnati, 12 noon on FS1
#23 Kansas visits Oklahoma State, 3:30 on FS1
BYU visits TCU, 3:30 on ESPN
And Texas Tech entertains Kansas State, 7:00 on FS1
UCF as you know is one of the bye teams this week so I am confident in my prediction this week that they will not lose a game.
